RYAN EGAN SWARM

Since releasing the Postures EP (featuring ‘Restoration’ and ‘Between The Pages’) in 2015, promising New York City songwriter Ryan Egan has only shared a handful of tracks, but they’ve been a stunning string of warm, soulful narratives that stand up on their own, but also come together as a continued story. We’ve heard tell of an album on the way, and surely ‘Swarm’ is going to be a welcome addition. Opening in lo-fi fashion with an exposed guitar and Egan’s husky vocal, the song suggests emotional turmoil, “no one has to see me come undone, but sometimes I get lost and I’m reeling.” In fact, the whole song - with those woozy electronics, upbeat tempo and that soul-serving piano - is set around these analogies and metaphors of seeing two paths before you, knowing the emotional consequences. So, what do you do, hold tight to the rope or let it go? - HT
